World Age Group Tumbling Championships Greg Townley

I am a World Class Gymnast and my discipline is Tumbling. I am 13 years old and have been tumbling for 5 years. I am five times British Tumbling Champion and I have been entering competitons at International level since I was 9. The last big competition I entered was The World Age Group Championships in Russia in November 2009 in St Petersburg. I entered the World Age Group Championships two years ago when it was held in Canada and I came 10th out of 45 competitors from around the world. Unfortunately, I messed up my landing and had a lot of points deducted and was really disappointed, I was determined to do better this time.

I travelled with the British Gymnastics delegation to St Petersburg to represent Great Britain in the competition , and was away from home for 10 days in total. It is completely different competing abroad to home as you have to cope with travel, time difference, tiredness and getting used to a different track. It was a great experience and I met many talented tumblers from different countries it is really good to see the level other tumblers are at. I am pleased to say that I trained very hard and my dedication paid off and I came home with the silver medal from the World Age Group Championships for Great Britain. Russia came first and third, they have some really good tumblers. It was great to come home with a medal for Great Britain and a week later I got the gold medal at the British Tumbling Championships a great end to the year. I am now training for the British Tumbling Tournament later on in the year, learning new moves and improving my tumbling skills. There may be some International Tumbling competitions to enter but we are usually informed of these at quite short notice. There should also be another World Age Group Tumbling Championships at the end of the year. I have a showreel of my skills on you tube if anyone would like to see what tumbling is.
